I found this big rock 🗿 It’s only 150m from where I’m staying and I decided it’s the official start & finish for every run from the apartment. • I use the 150m walk to the starting rock to shake out the legs and get my head around the run I’m about to do. It doesn’t matter how tired or sore I am, I know I can always do the walk to the rock and once I’m there, well.. I might as well get the run done 👊 • I actually have starting points for runs all around the world. Not always as bold as the big rock, but sometimes more subtle like the crack in the road in Melbourne where the pavement turns to gravel. Or in St Moritz the traffic sign near the track were I meet other runners and back in Nijmegen the corner of the street my parents live on. • For whatever reason I decided those are the unofficial-official starting points I can’t walk past. Just one step to the side to avoid a fall during the Diamond League final in Brussels caused a little niggle. The good news is that I still managed to run a PB that day. The bad news is that the ‘little niggle’ actually appears to be a tear in my plantar. So no road races for me this fall, but instead I will just focus on recovering & getting stronger for 2018. • Shows you can’t ever take a race or even a single training run for granted. What we do in this sport is pushing our bodies to the limit. No matter how good your body feels, competing is always taking a risk. A risk I’m willing to take for the love of the sport. • I’ve always been grateful for the races I did get to do and the PBs I did get to break this summer. But with this little setback it makes me appreciate even more that I managed to get my shit together in London when it mattered the most. • Now time to put my head down, be patient & work my butt off! Cheers are welcome. Always

For all my Dutch train-travelling friends, check out my article in Metro today with 7 tips on mental strength and my favourite chicky burger recipe. For everyone else in the world.. find the recipe below ☺️ Ingredients: 300gr chicken mince Thai red curry paste 1 egg coriander (about 20gr or in my case, half a plant) bread crumbs 2 big bread rolls 1 red capsicum 100gr spinach 1 avo wasabi mayo/yoghurt 1 sweet potato (500gr) paprika lemon juice olive oil Method: Oven on 200C, wash the sweet potato (don’t peel it, what a waste of time), chop in even pieces and mix with 3 tbsp of olive oil & lots of paprika. Throw on a tray covered with aluminium oil and put in the oven for 30min. 1 tbsp of olive oil in a griddle pan, fry the thinly sliced red capsicum until you see a mark. Meanwhile mix the chicken, egg, finely chopped coriander (save some stalks/leafs for garnish), pepper, salt and 2-3 tbsp of curry paste in a bowl. Add some breadcrumbs until the mixture is dry enough to shape the burgers. Make two big burgers and slightly press down in the middle so they don’t bulge too much in the center when you cook them. Push fried capsicum to the corner of the griddle pan and cook the burgers on both sides. Meanwhile give the tray with sweet potatoes in the oven a little shake and if you want to crisp them up (I prefer them a little burnt) at this stage turn on the grill in the oven. Mix 3 tbsp of mayo (or Greek yoghurt for the healthy version) with 1 tbsp of wasabi in a bowl. Mash the avo with pepper, salt & some lemon juice in a separate bowl. Now the exciting part: Burger Building! Slice the bread rolls in half. Top the bottom with some spinach leafs, avo mixture, the burger, wasabi sauce (save some to dip your sweet potato fries in), capsicum, coriander and the roof. Take the (hopefully slightly burnt) sweet potato fries out of the oven and serve with the leftover wasabi sauce. Nom nom nom

What a fun way to kick off the season at the Österreichischer Frauenlauf in Vienna! Sometimes half the battle is getting to that starting line, but then when you stand there with 35,000 women behind you & the blue Danube waltz blasting through the speakers you suddenly realise it was all worth it. I enjoyed every second of the race and just embraced that oh so familiar hurt in the legs of the first hard effort of the season. I put up a fight and ended up finishing a close second in 15:40min.
