My whole season has come down to this one event…the IAAF Outdoor World Championships and my long jump title defense. August 9th (qualifying round) August 11th (final). I remember in 2007 as the reigning world champion how I wasn't even prepared to defend my title. I gave it away on a silver platter. I remember how sick it made me–how unprepared I was. But I never make the same mistake twice. And I've been on defense all my life. This time I am ready. The #roadtolondon #EndsHere #andstill #justdoit #trackandfield #tracknation #longjump
I'm pretty much still crying. Funny story though…as I was walking to the podium the tears flowed faster. I thought *if I try to stop crying I'm going to have that ugly cry face in all my photos* Super vain right? But I know y'all know what I'm talking about. So I chose "the lesser of two evils" to just let the tears flow. I knew you'd understand. There may be a new world champion but I AM STILL the one and only, indestructible, tb.
How you do anything is how you do everything. So I start the day grateful for breath, checking in with my body, and getting mentally and spiritually fortified with meditation. It feels so good to get back to owning my mornings. #morningmotivation my #yogapants are @nike zonal tights #iwokeuplikethis said no #curlfriends ever. I do #yoga with my @bose speakers so you know my playlist isn't all ocean waves and wood flutes.
Tomorrow… • • • I won’t be on the track tomorrow for the London @diamondleagueathletics long jump competition (😕) But I will be in the mixed zone conducting athlete to athlete interviews for @britishathletics !!! So if you see me please stop!! I want to ask you a question (or two or three or maybe just two and a follow up question). It’ll probably be a question you haven’t been asked before…but that’s only to keep you from giving an answer we’ve ALL heard before! So please stop for me if/when you see me! Annnnd I’ll be joining the BBC Live Radio crew this evening at 20.00 to talk everything athletics from Monaco, IAAF rule changes, to what I think of @nojo18 (Noah Lyles), @sydneymclaughlin16 and other up and coming track stars both home and abroad. See you there. 💛
It’s WFO Wednesday. • • • That means “wide f**kin’ open” which means give it everything you’ve got…rest up and then give everything else you have left. Hold nothing back. And yes it’s scary and yes it’s going to hurt. Push the body to the limit, because if you’re caring for your body right it’ll adapt and that limit you thought you had will no longer exist. Sky’s the limit? Eff that, we have no limits. #justdoit #letsdoit #teamtb
This is my "ooo you just asked me a really good question" face. Press Conferences are a great opportunity to tell your story, or showcase your personality. Learning how to interview is a LIFE SKILL. You may get asked the same question over and over time and again but you don't have to be boring. So #teamtb you have any really good questions for me? I love how smart and creative you all are! 💛 Fire away…
Too Lit 2 Quit… • • • That’s what my shirt says. And yes those are The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Anyway…thanks to everyone who reached out to me yesterday. These social media platforms make it really easy (and tempting) to only show you my highlight reel BUT i find that boring so yea you got to see how it’s sometimes a struggle for me to get to my meditation cushion, or my yoga mat, or to the track or the gym…but you also see me find a way to do it anyway. You can feel all the things you feel…good bad or indifferent…but take care of yourself and your business ANYWAY. On another topic: hey thanks for the notes about Gravity and also for laughing at my little “incident” involving a boy and my parents way back in college. I’m still embarrassed. And it’s been 13 years. #happywednesday • • • • #linkinbio #readersofinstagram #writersofinstagram #trackandfield #track #tracknation
On this day… • • • 13 years ago. I flew to Helsinki, Finland with my coach @coachcarylsg for the 2005 IAAF World Championships. I was just in my second year of university (19 years old) but I came in ready to take my shot at the title against the best in the world. I came back victorious. I’m not going to say I was 100% confident that that would be the outcome, but I will say I was 100% confident in my preparation. Prepare yourself. Hard work doesn’t always pay off, but it damn sure improves the odds. #justdoit
